Implant Restoration
Taking care of your dental implant is just as important as taking care of your natural teeth. However, even if you brush, floss and maintain regular dental hygiene appointments, wear and tear on your teeth—whether real or a crown—is normal and expected.
Our team at Dentistry at Millennium Park recognizes the unique needs of patients with dental implants and offers implant restoration to Chicago as part of our restorative dentistry services.
What is Implant Restoration?
Implant restoration maintains and preserves the quality of the prosthetic tooth created for your mouth during the dental implant process. The crown is the tooth that goes on top of the titanium screw we place in your jaw to function as the tooth’s roots.
Just like how you’d come to the dentist if you experienced damage to a natural tooth, an oral health professional is trained to treat and restore prosthetics, too. For a natural tooth, we offer restorative and cosmetic dentistry solutions for chips, cracks and damage. Crowns are no different and we have a special procedure that deals specifically with restoring them.
For a crown, the repair process is usually quick, painless and simple. It almost never requires surgery and can be done by the team in one visit, depending on the degree of damage done to the original crown.
When Should I Get an Implant Restoration?
Since an implant and crown function like your real teeth, you can experience damage to it, too. Some of the most common issues we see in our office are:
- Cracks
- Chips
- Injury
- Loose abutment screws, which lead to crowns falling out and getting damaged
- Standard wear, tear and dulling like a natural tooth
Additionally, if you’re experiencing any pain, tenderness or discomfort around the site of your implant, give us a call at (312) 750-9000.
On occasion, the post of your implant may require a second surgery to attach to the jawbone. While this is a rare occurrence, we can help with our in-house staff or referral to our wide professional network of oral health partners.
What Happens During an Implant Restoration?
Usually, an implant restoration doesn’t require surgery like a dental implant does. First, our team examines the implant area and evaluates what is needed to repair the damage. Sometimes we can repair the implant itself in-office without needing to create a replacement.
If your crown is damaged beyond repair, we create a replacement. Just like with your original, we match it exactly to your natural teeth so it seamlessly blends in with the rest of your mouth.
